Reconsider your options.

My website is going to go under a major redesign in the next week or so where I'll be displaying leagues and leagues of work I haven't posted online from the last three years I've been at school. Not only will it include drawings and paintings that I've done, but also video, illustration, design, posters, and photography. I hope to also have my resume posted online by then but I still have some time for that.

The reason for this spontaneous revamp of the site is to make it easier for people who are interested in the Oceans posters (the shows are on March 12th and 13th) to access not only the posters I've been making all semester, but to also have the opportunity to order and purchase posters they are interested in. On top of that, if I'm expecting a little more traffic to the site I figure it doesn't hurt to have some more content and an easier navigation bar.

Congestion.

So I'm pretty sick. I've got the flu or something like it, just checked out the doctor and got a bunch of medicine to help me out. Hopefully I'll feel better soon, otherwise everything for school is going to be extremely late. I doubt I'll be able to do my installation on Monday if I don't start feeling better by tomorrow afternoon.

Last week I printed the posters for the Oceans shows on March 12 and 13. They'll be sold at both shows at the Empty Bottle in Chicago and The Courtyard Cafe in Champaign.



The blue is a lot stronger on the actual posters. Unfortunately I couldn't get the ink to thin out enough like in the .psd file. They still look alright though. I'm guessing they'll be sold from $15-$20 a poster if you're interested.

Big sighs of relief are coming from me at this moment. I finally started to buckle down my idea for studio after letting simple images of goldfish take over my brain for a few weeks there. I've been taking lots and lots of photos for class and I really feel that it helps me to articulate my other projects better. They all just end up working together somehow, I'm grateful for it.

Anyways, on Wednesday I went with Matt to screen print again. I ended up with some really nice prints of goldfish and in the process made 20 for Weiskamp to pay them back for their generosity. The 20 I made for them included an extra screen to advertise poster printing classes that they plan on giving in the future. Apparently it's being entered in some sort of contest, so we'll see how that turns out. In any case, I ended up with 27 posters for myself that I'll probably end up selling and giving to friends. So after printing those posters I finally started to really think about the whole goldfish thing. I've been pretty infatuated with them for some unknown reason this last month or so, and I started to be more interested in the confusing obsession aspect of the whole thing. That just reminded me of really obsessive installation work and then it hit me: I should totally do an installation. Since I'm taking advanced painting that takes care of the painting I planned on doing this semester, so I can experiment a little more in studio.

I'm really psyched for it.

Growling.

This morning (or should I say afternoon) I woke up to the sun going down at around 4 PM. Let me just say, waking up that late in the day does not feel very good, though I definitely needed the sleep. In total I got 14 hours of sleep last night to make up for staying up late the night before. The semester is definitely starting out strangely.

After I woke up, I finally finished the really dumb poster I had to design for my school's painting and sculpture show. I'm on the committee for the show and my job was to make the screen printed posters because that's what I like to do. That would be fun, except that the title of the show is horrible in my opinion and completely uninspiring.

This is what I came up with:

Really, horrible IMO. I wish I would have had the stomach to stand up and say, "I really hate this title." But I had missed the last committee meeting and felt like I couldn't really voice my thoughts on the matter. Alas, it's over now and all I have left to do is print the thing.

Speaking of printing though, I scanned the image that I used for my last set of prints.



I was really happy with the resulting prints.

Now all that's done, time for going out and celebrating the start of the new semester. Shall we?

Back at school again, the new year has started up completely different than I ever would have expected. It's been a month since I was last at studio and it's been a happy return.



Lounging about after photo today. My first assignment is to take around 400 photos by next week and pick 25 that I like. Sounds like fun, though I wish I had some really interesting stuff to photograph besides snow, studio and dead cockroaches.



I can't believe Flagg Hall is so gross. These little guys were found dead on the ground from the long, hard holiday break by Jorge and I last night. Ugggh. I hope we don't find any more.

Last weekend I went screen printing again and did one print of a series I plan on finishing by the end of the year. Each print will be of a girl holding up her horoscope in a bizarre way -- the one I did last weekend was of a girl supporting a lion on her legs while holding her body up from the bottom up. If that makes any sense. I'll take some photos of the finished print tomorrow. Which horoscope should I do next?

I also have to design the poster for the Junior/Senior painting show by tomorrow night for screen printing on Saturday. I sort of wish I was doing another print for one of my projects, but this should still be fun.



Hopefully I wont be a lazy lion, like usual.
